Personal Piety

While ritual prayer (salat) based on the Qur’an is always recited in Arabic at prescribed times of the day, personal prayers invoking God’s graces may be said at any time and in any language. These supplicating prayers (du’a) include texts that express devotion to the prophet Muhammad in poetic form (na’t) as well as those that repeat one of the many names of God (dhikr).
